The Garden of Weedin’

Well it has been a while since we last mentioned the garden, partly because we were to ashamed to take pictures of it.  With a combination of 3 weddings, 2 groups of visitors, and 1 family reunion, it has been a very busy couple of months.  Now that we have had a bit of time to get caught back up we figured we better catch up from where we last left off.  We have come to the conclusion that we will never have a manicured weed free garden, but thanks to the help of Lilly’s weeding machine of a mother, Mary, we are in substantially better shape than before.

Early in the season we gave you a run down of what we had planted, and not much has changed.  Other than fully depleting our radish supply, everything else seems never ending.  To put things into perspective, we have harvested over 25 pounds of lettuce with little evidence of disturbance.  While the garden has been a lot of work, it has also been very rewarding.  So far we have been able to eat rhubarb, raspberries,  lettuce, chard, kale, broccoli, onions, basil, cucumbers, radishes, carrots, tomatoes, beans, peas and peppers out of the garden.  It has been very enjoyable to be able to walk out each night and find things to create a wonderful meal with.

The first picture below was taken a little over a month ago on June 24th and the second picture was taken just yesterday.  As you can see, there will be more work  during the heavy harvest months to come.
